How does it work?
Smallholder farmers make up 50% of the world’s hungry. Without access to affordable, appropriate products that help them to become more productive they are unable to earn a reasonable, sustainable income.
IDE creates supply chains for simple, affordable products which are mostly linked to irrigation, such as the treadle pump, drip irrigation system and the Family Nutrition Kit . Through a network of local dealers, poor farmers can buy these products locally to irrigate larger areas of crops all year round.
Furthermore IDE helps poor farmers to make links with local and regional markets to help them sell their surplus crops for a good price.
IDE also promotes low-cost water filtration systems to eliminate disease and provide safe drinking water.
IDE believes that our enterprise-based approach is a catalyst for change.
